Disabled Persons Circuit Breaker - Eligibility and Application Process (320 ILCS 25/1 to 13

To Qualify:

1) Must be disabled or become disabled during the assessment year
2) Must be an Illinois resident and occupy a residence in Illinois.
3) Must have a HOUSEHOLD income of no more than
         $22,217 for yourself only; or  
         $29,479 for you and your spouse; or
         $36,739 for you, your spouse, and one qualified additional resident

Documents Needed:

a) Illinois Circuit Breaker Form IL-1363
b) Proof of HOUSEHOLD income
c) Proof of Disability (see Disabled Persons Homestead Exemption information page)
d) Proof of property tax paid or rent paid in year prior to application year


Process: Call our office to make an appointment to bring the required documents into our Assessor’s Office. We will photocopy all documents and return the originals to you. We will assist you in completing the application form. FILING DEADLINE IS DECEMBER 31ST

Effect:

The Circuit Breaker Tax Relief program does not reduce your local property taxes. Instead, it provides a direct refund from the State of Illinois to you. The amount of the refund varies depending upon your household income versus the amount of property taxes or rent you paid last year. The lower your household income and the higher your property taxes or rent paid, the larger the refund. The maximum refund permitted is $700.00.
There may be additional benefits available such as a discount on license plate fees and reimbursement for certain Medicare Part D Prescription plans. When you apply for the Circuit Breaker Tax Relief you may also apply for these other benefits with the same application.
